"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S"
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 | LHP Adam Wynegar, James Madison: Wynegar
hurled the first no-hitter for James Madison since 1989 as the Dukes won a 7-inning
contest against IUPUI (Indiana Univ.-Purdue Univ. at Indianapolis), 16-0. He struck out 16
batters, walked three and hit one hitter. It marked the seventh no-hitter in school
history.
|
 | LHP Barry Zito, Southern
California: Zito struck out 16 batters in seven innings during a 17-1 win over
Arizona. Sixteen strikeouts are the most by a Trojan since at least 1987 (as far back as
USC single-game records are currently available), and Zito did it twice in eight days. A
week ago, he fanned 16 against Oregon State. This marks the third time in his career he
has struck out 16 in a game. He did it once as a 1997 freshman when playing for U.C. Santa
Barbara.
|
 | OF Jason Sparks, Tulane: Sparks
belted 6 home runs in four games last week and knocked in 12 runs as he hit .533
(8-for-15). Sparks had at least one home run in every game, including three in the final
game of a 3-game series against N.C. Charlotte.
