"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" FRESHMEN ALL-AMERICAN BASEBALL TEAM

TUCSON, Ariz. — The 2004 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team features a who’s who of tremendous baseball talent.

The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Freshmen National Players of The Year in LHP Wade LeBlanc (Alabama), RHP Tim Lincecum (Washington) and relief pitcher Blair Erickson (U.C. Irvine).

Here is a rundown on the 2004 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as chosen by Collegiate Baseball.

Starting Pitchers

	LHP Wade LeBlanc, Alabama — LeBlanc, Collegiate Baseball’s co-Freshman of The Year, had a freshman season like no other in the 111-year history of Alabama baseball. Named Freshman of The Year in the Southeastern Conference, he set Alabama freshman records for innings pitched (112.6), strikeouts (98) and complete games (8) and tied the UA freshman records with eight wins on the mound. In 16 games, including 15 starts, LeBlanc posted an 8-4 record and 2.08 ERA. He only walked 26.
	RHP Tim Lincecum, Washington — Lincecum, Collegiate Baseball’s co-Freshman of The Year, is the first player ever in Pac-10 history to be named both Pitcher and Freshman of The Year in the same season. Lincecum, 10-2, led the league with 151 strikeouts and held opposing batters to an average of just .210, also a Pac-10 best this season. His 3.49 ERA was fourth-best in the league, and he was one of only six pitchers to throw over 100 innings during the regular season, notably the only freshman to do so.
	LHP Jason Meyer, Texas A&M — The first team Big 12 Conference and Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big 12 put together a monster season for the Aggies. Meyer posted an 8-2 record with a 2.45 ERA and three saves. He fanned 109 batters in 102 2/3 innings and walked 39.
	LHP Nick Hill, Army — The Pitcher of The Year in the Patriot League, posted a 10-3 record and 2.60 ERA as he hurled 8 complete games. On top of that, he recorded 81 strikeouts and only walked 24 in 86 2/3 innings.
	RHP Ian Kennedy, Southern California — A first team All-Pac-10 selection, Kennedy posted a glistening 7-2 record with a 2.91 ERA. He fanned 120 batters and walked only 31.
	LHP Chris Ingoglia, Stetson — The All-Freshmen Atlantic Sun Conference selection posted a 7-3 record with a 3.62 ERA. He struck out 50 batters on the season in 79 2/3 innings.
	LHP Clay Dirks, Louisiana St. — The All-Freshman Southeastern Conference pick posted an 8-2 record with a 3.35 ERA. He struck out 66 batters while walking only 17.
	LHP Derrick Gordon, Lamar — The Freshman of The Year in the Southland Conference and second team All-Southland selection posted a 7-3 record this season with a superb 1.92 ERA. He fanned 54 batters in 65 2/3 innings.
	LHP Dustin Pease, Mount St. Mary’s — The Rookie of The Year in the Northeast Conference posted an 8-4 record, 3.19 ERA and six complete games. He struck out 88 batters and walked 15.
	LHP Brian Schultz, Florida St. — Schultz posted a 7-1 record and 4.21 ERA in 2004. He struck out 57 batters and walked 27.

	LHP Kris Johnson, Wichita St. — Johnson posted a perfect 7-0 record and 2.01 ERA this season. He fanned 66 batters while walking 28.
	LHP Keith Weiser, Miami (Ohio) — The Freshman of The Year in the Mid-American Conference, Weiser had an 8-3 record and 4.30 ERA as he struck out 63 batters with 29 walks.
	RHP Daniel Bard, North Carolina — The Freshman of The Year in the Atlantic Coast Conference who also was a first team All-ACC selection, put together an 8-4 record with a 3.88 ERA. He also fanned 68 batters with 31 walks.
	RHP Brett Sinkbeil, S.W. Missouri St. — The Freshman of The Year in the Missouri Valley Conference posted a 7-4 record and 3.11 ERA with three complete games. He struck out 84 batters and walked 34.
	RHP Casey Hudspeth, South Florida — A member of the All-Freshmen Team in Conference USA, he posted an 8-4 record with a 3.45 ERA. He fanned 74 batters with 35 walks.
	RHP Harold Mozingo, Virginia Commonwealth — The Rookie of The Year in the Colonial Athletic Association, Mozingo posted a 7-4 record and fanned 82 batters with 44 walks.
	RHP P.J. Walters, South Alabama — The Freshman of The Year in the Sun Belt Conference and a second team All-Conference selection, Walters put together a 10-2 record and 4.23 ERA. He struck out 119 batters, walked 38 and threw six complete games.
	RHP Patrick Ezell, Southern Mississippi — A member of the All-Freshmen team in Conference USA, Ezell put together a 6-2 record with a 3.57 ERA. He fanned 73 batters and walked only 14 batters.
	RHP Ryan Zink, Illinois-Chicago — A first team Horizon League selection, Zink posted a 9-3 record and 2.07 ERA. He compiled six complete games as he struck out 92 batters and only walked 15.
	RHP Shane Matthews, East Carolina — A member of the Conference USA All-Freshmen team, Matthews posted a 701 record and 3.72 ERA, He struck out 54 batters and walked 19.
	RHP Taylor Meier, Central Florida — A member of the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshmen team, Meier posted a 6-3 record with a 2.55 ERA. He fanned 56 batters.
	RHP David Williams, N.C. Asheville — Williams posted an 8-3 record with a 2.84 ERA. He struck out 71 batters with only 38 walks.
	RHP Jeff Day, Miami (Ohio) — Day put together a 7-2 record and 4.58 ERA. He recorded 50 strikeouts and walked 20 in 76 2/3 innings.
	RHP Kyle McCulloch, Texas — McCulloch was perfect with a 7-0 record as he posted a 3.31 ERA. He also struck out 33 batters with only 18 walks.
	RHP Nick Chigges, Coll. Of Charleston — Chigges posted a 5-1 record which included a 3.56 ERA. He also fanned 53 batters with 31 walks.
	RHP Bobby Blevins, Le Moyne — Named Rookie of The Year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Blevins posted a 6-4 record, 3.24 ERA and threw three complete games. He also fanned 52 batters and walked 24.
	RHP Jeff Samardzija, Notre Dame — Samardzija posted a 5-3 record in 20 appearances this season with a 2.95 ERA. He fanned 42 batters and walked only 17 in 64 innings of work.
	RHP Stephen Perry, Dartmouth — The Ivy League Rookie of The Year posted a 6-1 record along with a 3.83 ERA. He struck out 38 batters and walked 20 in 49 1/3 innings.
	RHP Josh Johnson, Mississippi St. — Johnson put together a 5-1 record with a 4.06 ERA. He also fanned 43 batters and walked 15 in 51 innings.
	RHP Chris Grider, Eastern Kentucky — Grider posted an 8-4 record and 4.13 ERA. He fanned 81 batters and walked 39 in 69 2/3 innings.

Relief Pitchers

	Blair Erickson, U.C. Irvine — Erickson, Collegiate Baseball’s co-Freshman of The Year, was named Freshman Pitcher of The Year in the Big West Conference as he posted 17 saves with a 4.10 ERA in 37 1/3 innings. He fanned 51 batters and walked 21.
	Danny Gil, Miami (Fla.) — Gil has been nothing short of sensational for the Hurricanes with an 8-0 record, 5 saves and 3.11 ERA in 26 appearances this season.
	Brian Pellegrini, St. Bonaventure — A second team Atlantic 10 pick, Pellegrini posted nine saves with a 2.25 ERA. In 32 innings, he fanned 32 batters and walked 19.
	Derrik Lutz, George Washington — A first team Atlantic 10 selection, Lutz has 12 saves with a 3.55 ERA. He fanned 40 batters and walked only 21 in 50 2/3 innings.
	Kevin Gunderson, Oregon St. — Gunderson posted a 6-2 record with three saves and compiled a 2.72 ERA this season. He posted 38 strikeouts and walked 16.

Catchers

	Jordan Abruzzo, San Diego — The Freshman of The Year in the West Coast Conference and a second team West Coast selection, Abruzzo hit .375 with 14 doubles, 9 homers and 49 RBI. He was also a superb defensive catcher for the Toreros.
	Matt McBride, Lehigh — A second team Patriot League selection, McBride hit .366 with 20 doubles and 35 RBI.
	Chad Tracy, Pepperdine — Tracy hit .320 with 15 doubles and 12 homers in collecting 47 RBI on the season.
	Nick Salotti, U.C. Riverside — Salotti hit .346 with 17 doubles, 10 homers and knocked in 51 runs.
	Sean Walker, Michigan St. — Walker hit 15 doubles, 9 homers and knocked in 29 runs as he hit .288 for the Spartans as he played in 54 games.

First Basemen

	Josh Morris, Georgia — The second team Southeastern Conference selection hit .323 with 16 homers and 16 doubles this season in leading the Bulldogs with 68 RBI. He had a slugging percentage of .627.
	Ryne Malone, Florida St. — A second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference pick, Malone hit .330 with 12 homers, 15 doubles and 54 RBI this season. He also swiped 9 of 10 bases.
	Daniel Stovall, New Mexico — A first team Mountain West selection, Stovall hit .347 with 12 homers, 14 doubles and 34 RBI. His slugging percentage was .608.
	Mike Mee, Minnesota — Mee hit .319 with 16 doubles, 6 homers and 53 RBI during the season
	Sean O’Brien, Virginia Tech. — O’Brien hit a team-leading .372 in 50 games as he collected 9 doubles and 6 doubles in knocking in a team-high 45 runs.

Second Basemen

	Corey Wimberly, Alcorn St. — The Newcomer of The Year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Wimberly hit .420 with 8 doubles and 25 RBI. He has blazing speed as he swiped 40 of 46 bases.
	Adam Davis, Florida — A member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshmen team, Davis hit .316 with 11 doubles, 6 homers. He also swiped 21 of 26 bases this season for the Gators.
	Chris Campbell, Coll. Of Charleston — The Freshman Player of The Year in the Southern Conference hit .332 with 22 doubles, 5 homers and 63 RBIs.
	Jim Negrych, Pittsburgh — The Rookie of The Year in the Big East Conference as well as a second team Big East pick, Negrych hit a team-high .378 with 20 doubles, 7 homers and knocked in 45 runs.
	Jeffrey Rea, Mississippi St. — Rea hit .324 with 13 doubles and 32 RBI for the Bulldogs. He also swiped 11 bases.

Shortstops

	Chris Valaika, U.C. Santa Barbara — The Freshman Player of The Year in the Big West Conference, Valaika hit .347 with 15 doubles, 7 homers and 38 RBI.
	German Duran, Texas Christian — Named to the All-Freshmen Team in Conference USA, Duran had a 21-game hitting streak as he hit .330 with 16 doubles, 5 homers and 27 RBI.
	Jason Donald, Arizona — The Wildcats’ Donald hit .323 with 7 homers, 11 doubles and 41 RBI.

Third Basemen

	Ryan Campbell, Eastern Illinois — Campbell hit .347 with 22 doubles, 7 homers and 44 RBI. He led the team with a .538 slugging percentage.
	Austin Boggs, Texas A&M — Boggs hit .339 with 11 doubles, 5 homers and 52 RBI for the Aggies in 62 games as a starter.
	Christian Vitters, Fresno St. — A first team Western Athletic Conference selection, Vitters hit .318 with 9 homers, 11 doubles and 42 RBIs.
	Miguel Magrass, Vermont — The Rookie of The Year in the America East Conference, Magrass hit .343 with 7 homers, 18 doubles and 52 RBI.
	Shelby Ford, Texas Christian — A member of the Conference USA All-Freshmen Team, Ford hit .301 with 16 homers, 13 doubles and knocked in 56 runs.

Outfielders

	Drew Stubbs, Texas — A first team Big 12 Conference selection and Freshman of The Year in the Big 12, Stubbs swiped 27-33 bases this season as he hit .305 with 14 doubles, 6 homers and 43 RBI.
	Carson Kainer, Texas — The first team Big 12 Conference pick hit .354 with 7 doubles for the Longhorns. His slugging percentage on the season was .463.
	Chad Huffman, Texas Christian — Named Freshman of The Year in Conference USA, Huffman hit .383 with 9 homers, 20 doubles and 44 RBI.
	Jon Jay, Miami (Fla.) — Jay started the entire year for the Hurricanes in left field as he hit .358 with 14 doubles, 4 home runs, 48 RBI and posted a .552 slugging percentage and .454 on-base percentage. He also swiped 19 bases.
	Brett Bigler, U.C. Riverside — The Honorable Mention Big West Conference pick hit .322 with 13 doubles as he walked a team-high 48 times.
	Clark Hardman, Cal. St. Fullerton — The first team Big West selection hit .356 with 5 doubles and 31 RBI.
	Jacob Howell, Ohio St. — Named Freshman of The Year in the Big Ten Conference, Howell hit .336 with 2 homers, 8 doubles and 27 RBI. He also swiped 11 bases.
	Joey Side, Georgia — Named to the All-Freshmen Team in the Southeastern Conference, Side hit .289 with 5 homers, 8 doubles and 30 RBI.
	Nick Moresi, Fresno St. — The second team Western Athletic Conference pick hit .311 with 7 homers, 9 doubles and 31 RBI.
	Shane Jordan, Stetson — A member of the All-Freshman Atlantic Sun team, Jordan hit .308 with 6 doubles and 27 RBI. He also swiped 22 bases.

Multiple Position Athletes

	Zechry Zinicola, Arizona St. — Zinicola had a superb freshman year as he hit .280 with 3 doubles, 3 homers and 26 RBI. As a pitcher, he recorded 8 saves with a 4-2 record and 3.36 ERA. He fanned 57 batters and walked 20.
	Milan Dinga, Army — Named Freshman of The Year in the Patriot League, Dinga hit .330 with 9 doubles, 2 homers and 36 RBI. As a pitcher, he posted three saves and a 3.86 ERA in 10 games.

Designated Hitters

	Anthony Smith, George Washington — Named Rookie of The Year in the Atlantic 10 Conference, he hit .369 with 15 homers, 17 doubles and 69 RBI.
	Danny Hamblin, Arkansas — An All-Freshman selection in the Southeastern Conference, Hamblin hit .311 with 8 homers, 18 doubles and 40 RBI..
	Pat Tumilty, Evansville — A first team Missouri Valley Conference pick, Tumilty hit .321 with 8 homers, 12 doubles and 49 RBI.
	Ricky Thomas, Prairie View A&M — A first team Southwestern Athletic Conference selection, Thomas hit .351 with 9 homers, 13 doubles and 53 RBI.
	Brock Ungricht, San Diego St. — Named a first team Mountain West Conference selection, Ungricht hit .373 with 3 homers, 21 doubles and 48 RBI.
	Juan Serrano, Norfolk St. — The Rookie of The Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Serrano hit .352 with 10 doubles and 39 RBI.
	Greg Sexton, William & Mary — Sexton hit .356 with 24 doubles, 4 homers and 53 RBI.
